1 Merroo Christian Conference Centre, 300 people, 6 congregations, 4 speakers, 7 rounds of trivia, 2 hours of touch footy, 27 coffees, 4 degrees Celsius, 3 pancakes per person, 1 night of joint congregational prayer, praise and vision setting, 0 degrees of separation in dorm rooms and a whole lot of fellowship and challenging talks.
That was our Combined Cathedral Congregations Conference for 2007. We had meals and social activities with other congregations, while each congregation had their own separate talks. Fix had talks from Tim Bowden on Faith, Hope and Love and were challenged in lots of ways in our personal Christian lives. The Saturday night event, when we mixed up people from all congregations and interacted and talked and prayed together was one of my highlights, as was the meals with Fixers and with other people. If we have another weekend during the year then I'd be happy to have a Cathedral Weekend with all the other services. What do you think ??? Loved the weekend. Nae and I particularly liked getting to know FIX-ers better. We felt very included and loved the FIX talks. Highlight: talking with FIX'ers. We enjoyed the combined night because it felt like FIX was an important part of something bigger. Lowlight: we missed spending time with those FIXers who could not make it.
I thought the weekend away was great! I would like to see more combined talks and social activities with the other congregations. Maybe half of everything with just FIX and the other half with the rest of the cathedral. I think it's important that we form relationships with people from other congregations as it will better enable us to minister as a whole. If we end up having another weekend away this year...count me in!!
Yeah, I agree with Ken. It's often helpful to see that we are part of something bigger and so saturday night was a highlight for me too. It's always good to be reminded that we are part of God's mission and that's bigger than just us. I also had that reminder last year when I went to the Lake Conjola 50th Year Anniversary and saw how God had been working through time.
I'm constantly encouraged and challenged by people from different congregations so it was good to have that too.
I guess the hard thing for me was being so tired from coming straight from AnCon and sleeping during freetime when I could have otherwise been hanging out with people. So it might be useful to think of timing for next year for uni ppl.
I'm wondering what's going to happen to the saturday night planning... Perhaps the cathedral could have a day or lunch-meeting when the implementation of that can be discussed and prayed for.
Good thoughts people. I think the overall positive tone about the combined events has come through...
